Tuesday, February 9, 2021. New York City – It is winter in “The Naked City”. We have been getting a lot of snow. I love snow, so I am happy.

According to VICE.com, “Hugo Gyrl is a Brooklyn-born queer graffiti artist based in New Orleans whose work reclaims public space for LGBTQ people and women, reminding viewers that queerness has always been tied to rebellion and fighting for visibility.”
In May 2019, HUGO GYLR was arrested in Brooklyn for creating art. “FROM THE STREETS 2 THE MUSEUM!!!I have a piece in The Brooklyn Museum, a group show called Nobody Promised You Tommorow: Art 50 years after Stonewall. Honored to be up in it! (The BK museum is also pay what you can, so if yr in NY go check it out!) So I flew up here for the opening, and was blown away by the amazing people at it. So many people from different times in my life? The next day, I was feeling so good, putting up wheatpastes near Redhook, when all of a sudden cherries and berries!(cop lights) Guess what, wheatpasting is still illegal! So I spent the night in jail, about 19hrs total. A $120 fine later, and I was back on the BK streets. You know what? I STILL felt GOOD!!! Those cuffs didnt even fuck up my mood! Of course I wasnt happy about it, but I know that I am one lucky freak and am not going to let the law get my spirit down. Also good reminder, you can get in a Museum, but to the cops and the powers that be, you are criminal riff-raff! Nothing Changes, but it Never Stays the Same. Im so grateful for the support and love I get and will try to Keep Spreading it too!”
